Most of us are big fans of automation. We see automation as the answer for the future without knowing the implications.

Rise of the Robots is a book that succeeds to combine the impacts of technology and economics onto mankind. This book has diagnosed the problem of technological unemployment, exploring its causes and trends, and clarifying the transformative power of technological advances as they relate to human labor. Also, Ford describes that the only answer to a more optimistic future is through basic income. Maybe in the end we should see automation as a necessity with guaranteed income.

In the book, the main risk according to Ford is the lack of jobs would lead to a drop in mass consumption which might initiate the downward spiral. But, what I feel is, a little less consumption will never be a problem. The book gives a lot of hope towards the end. It says that — “While the machines clearly seem destined to take more and more work overtime, there is no question that the economy will be heavily dependent on human labor for the foreseeable future.”

With all the facts, this book is definitely worth reading.
